A 1.5 ton increase in ASF firing with a Pillard PFZ™ injector
Fives has recently commissioned an alternative solid fuel (ASF) injector (Pillard PFZ™ type) for a 1500TPD cement plant in France.
This 23.3MW Pillard PFZ™ injector, purchased in March 2020, is now being used as a support for the kiln’s 60.5MW Pillard ROTAFLAM® burner. The purpose of the purchase order was to increase the amount of alternative fuel fired in the rotary kiln. Until its purchase, ASF was conveyed directly into the center of the kiln burner but the flow rate was limited to 3.5 t/h.
Further to its commissioning, the equipment was able to fire 4.5 t/h of ASF (30% more than before) which corresponds to an overall substitution rate of 35%.
A shortening of the firing zone was also observed, improving furnace operation.
Fives’ successful new experience consolidates its know-how with Pillard PFZ™ satellite burners and demonstrates the variety of solutions the company offers to increase the proportion of renewable energy that can be used in cement plants & reduce CO2 emissions of fossil fuels.
